1. Albania - The red represents bravery and strength while the double-headed eagle represents the state of Albania in the Balkans whose people are loyal.
2. Andorra - The colors on the flag represent Andorra’s independence from Spain, France and the symbol in the center is its coat of arms. 3. Bosnia and Herzegovina - The three points of the yellow triangle represent the three nation theory of Bosnia. The white stars are meant to be Europe and there are supposed to be infinite stars. 4. Croatia - The background of this flag is red white and blue. In the middle is the Croatian Coat of Arms with 13 red squares and 12 supposed to be silver squares. 5. Greece - Greece’s flag is made up of 9 horizontal stripes that alternate between blue and white. On the upper left corner, there is a white cross placed upon a blue canton. The alternating lines represent freedom and/or the nine muses. 6. Italy - Three colors make up the flag: green, white, and red. The colors have different meanings now, but it was originally used to unite all of Italy. Now the green represents hope, the white represents faith, and the red represents charity. 7. Malta - The flag of Malta is red and white. The cross is the George Cross, awarded to malta during World War II. |
8. Montenegro - This is the Montenegro Coat of arms in the middle. The background is red with a gold background. The coat of arms is a golden, double-headed eagle which represents the unity of church and state.
9. Portugal - The red represents hope in the future and the red represents the people’s blood. In the middle is the Portugal Coat of Arms. 10. San Marino - The background of the flag is blue and white. The blue represents the sky above and the white represents the snow on Mt. Titano which is San Marino’s highest point. In the middle is the San Marino Coat of Arms which is a blue shield with a closed crown on top. This symbolizes sovereignty. 11. Serbia - This flag is has a white, red and blue background, which are the same colors used throughout Serbia’s history. In the middle is the Serbian Coat of Arms which is a white double-headed eagle against a red shield. The shield in front of the eagle represents the Serbian nation while the double-headed eagle represents unity of the nation. 12. Slovenia - This flag has white, blue and red stripes and the Slovenia Coat of Arms in between the white and blue stripes. The flag has Mount Triglav, the tallest mountain in Slovenia and the Julian Alps, and the wavy lines under the mountain represent the sea and rivers in Slovenia. 13. Spain - The Spain flag has 2 red stripes half the size of 1 yellow stripe, and in the middle is a simplified version of the Spanish Coat of Arms. On the coat of arms, there are two crowned topped pillars of Hercules, because of the geographic location, and a banner with the latin words “PLUS ULTRA” which means the Columbus voyages, the shield represents the four kingdoms that ruled Spain. 14. The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia - The stripes represent the struggles against the axis power in World War II. The red star in the middle represents the leading role of the Communist Party. |
